Ethics for Massage School Teachers

Course Description: The class provides ethics continuing education that will meet the North Carolina and national renewal requirements. Massage school teachers will examine pertinent ethical issues that arise when teaching massage school students. The class can be tailored to the needs of the faulty.
We will also look at teaching Ethics by example and discover ways to communicate more clearly what we really want from our students ethically. The class includes stimulating topics for lively discussion, as well as problem- solving participatory exercises.
Learning Outcomes: Here are 4 sets of learning objectives for 3 versions of Ethics for Massage School Teachers. Classes can also be tailored to the needs of the school.
Focus: Communication in the Classroom
Having attended the Ethics class, the massage school teacher will:
- Describe the impact of ethics as modeled by the massage school teacher in teaching massage school students.
- Identify his/her most common mode of direction to
students.(Commands vs. Requests)
- Recognize and describe when and why the massage school teacher
would use commands or requests with students.
- Compare and contrast client-centered massage therapy with student-centered teaching.
Focus: Understanding the Teacher/Student Relationship
At the conclusion of this class, the student may expect to:
- Differentiate between the teacher/student relationship and other defined potential relationships, in particular the parent/child relationship and the therapeutic relationship.
- Develop and apply modes of communication and teaching strategies that are true to the teacher/student relationship in the classroom.
Focus: Belief Systems and Their Impact on Teaching
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the impact of beliefs on the student/teacher relationship.
- Explain how beliefs form, what keeps them in place, and 4 ways to change beliefs.
- Discuss the ethics of purposely attempting to change another's beliefs.
Focus: Cultural Diversity
Having attended the Ethics class, the massage school teacher will:
- Define Cultural Diversity and its characteristics.
- Examine how cultural diversity affects the classroom environment, and identify specific positive and negative effects.
- Discuss how cultural diversity affects relationships in the classroom.
- Discuss the preferred roles of administration, teachers, and teaching aids in managing issues that arise due to cultural diversity.
- Discuss current issues in the profession that relate to cultural diversity, including human trafficking.
